Committee held at and sponsored by the J.F.Hurley Family YMCA in
Salisbury~North Carolina~Rowan County,
Hello, and as you know, my name is Robert Stephen Rhodes. I am a
27 year old male that unfortunately, I have been diagnosed and suffer
from Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSH Muscular Dystrophy, for
short) and have been diagnosed since the year of 1990 and am severely
affected and disabled from having this debilitating disease. I am
severally weakened by my disease and it is progressing faster as the
years go by and now starting to spread down into my back, hips and legs
which is usually associated with the later part of the disease. I am
however proud to be a part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association there
in Charlotte. I now commonly see the doctor through MDA every 6 months
now due to the severity of my disease. Due to circumstances beyond my
control, I am only able to travel to Charlotte to attend doctors
appointments only and am currently not able to attend the support group
meetings there in Charlotte, which is the closest support group for
Muscular Dystrophy, due to my disease and due to the fact that I have to
find transportation because I can no longer drive. I always have to
depend on someone else fo
