Ben Merk Paintings
Ben Merk, born 1924 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. A contemporary abstract painter. Recall a resemblance with the Cobra movement. Dreamy paintings arise, which surprise by changing color splendor. Merk dares to show the whole spectrum of colors together on a canvas. Pastels do not bite loud colors. The canvasses have frequently neither a beginning nor an end, but they look by the large color areas which overflow in a quiet side, not too busy. Merk lets the form and the dimension of the frame stipulate what happens on the painting. At a number of elongated paintings, also the forms are elongated. The narrowness of the painting gets an optical strengthening
